Alexa Grasso vs Viviane Araujo is a race to see which woman can take the first title.
UFC Vegas 62 is another edition of the action packed mixed martial arts agenda that the UFC is bringing to the masses. This show features a women’s flyweight main event between Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo. These two women will finally meet after the initial bout has been scratched and Grasso is looking for an opportunity to participate as a top contender for the 125-pound title.
“I think this is a fight that should have happened,” Grassau said during the Media Day interview. “We are both very similar. We are very close to the rankings. It had to happen, we are very close in every area and it is a great match for both of us. They are the strongest opponent I have trained with.”
Grasso is riding a triple-win streak, taking one win every year since 2020. Those victories came over Maycee Barber, Ji Yeon Kim, and most recently over Joanne Wood back in March. This is a solid rebound since her recent defeat at the hands of current strawweight champion Carla Esparza in September 2019. A win could push her to seek the title sooner rather than later.
“There’s another important fight next weekend, and I feel like this is a bit like a semi-final,” Grasseau said. “The hero will look at the one who does the best I hope.”
Vivian Araujo is also in a position to claim the winning title
If Grasso is to maintain this winning streak, she will have to defeat Araujo, who would recently take a win over Andrea Lee. Araujo remained a tough threat in this division but struggled to outsmart top opponents, dropping fights to both Jessica Eye and Katlyn Chookagain.
